Yakap Doula

Get to know your postpartum doula

Hey there, I’m Candy!

So happy you found your way here. I’m a Certified Postpartum Doula, born in the Philippines and now living my best life in beautiful Ottawa. Caring for others isn’t just something I do it’s who I am.

In Filipino culture, acts of service are basically our love language. Need a warm meal, a listening ear, or someone to fold your laundry while you nap? I’ve been fluent in that since birth.

Whether you’re navigating the fourth trimester or just need a little extra TLC, I’m here to wrap you in care, comfort and a whole lot of yakap (that’s “hug” in Tagalog and I give good ones).

Let’s make your postpartum journey feel less like survival mode and more like a soft landing. You deserve it.

Education and Trainings
  • Before moving to Canada, my days revolved around reports, deadlines, and endless spreadsheets. Somewhere between the paperwork, I realized I wasn’t meant for a life behind a desk, I’m a people person at heart! That realization sparked a new adventure in hospitality, where I spent seven wonderful years in 5-star hotels, making guests feel special and turning ordinary stays into unforgettable experiences.

When the pandemic brought my hospitality career to a halt, I promised myself that my next chapter would be filled with heart. I wanted to work with children and animals, the purest sources of unconditional love. Becoming an early childhood assistant changed everything. My homesickness melted away with every hug and every joyful “Ms. Candy!” echoing through the classroom.

One day, a parent told me, “You’d make a wonderful postpartum doula.” That simple comment opened a new door. As I learned more, I discovered a world that resonated deeply with me. Postpartum work isn’t just about caring for babies it’s about empowering women, supporting families and being a steady, joyful presence during one of life’s most tender transitions.

This isn’t just work, it's my calling. Every hug and every smile reminds me that I’m exactly where I’m meant to be, helping families feel supported, seen and celebrated.

  • One of the biggest realization for new parents is how quickly their own needs fade into the background. In the whirlwind of baby snuggles, midnight feedings, and endless diaper changes, parents are swept up in a tidal wave of emotions anxiety, loneliness and even guilt for simply wanting a moment of peace. The spotlight shines so brightly on the baby that parents often forget to care for themselves, pushing through exhaustion and believing that asking for help means they’re not enough.

But here’s the truth, parents need TLC too. Self-care isn’t selfish, it’s essential. A happy, nurtured parent is truly the greatest gift a baby could ever have.

  • Supporting families means arriving with compassion, calm and a spark of cheer. Emotionally, I’m a steady listener and gentle encourager, always ready with a warm smile and a reminder that parents aren’t alone on this wild ride. Whether the day brings joy, exhaustion, or uncertainty, I hold space for every feeling and offer a reassuring presence: “You’re doing great. I’m here for you.”

Practically, I care for babies with tenderness and confidence and I’m always ready to roll up my sleeves helping with laundry, tidying, or preparing light meals whatever gives parents a chance to rest and recharge.

My goal is to bring a sense of peace and positivity into the home, so families feel safe, supported and truly seen. By lightening the load, I help parents focus on what matters most, bonding with their baby and stepping into this new chapter with confidence.

  • My one go-to piece of advice is to embrace the postpartum with grace. The early days with a baby are beautiful, messy and unpredictable and that’s all part of the journey. Give yourself grace when things don’t go as planned and remember you are more than enough. Trust your instincts, honor your feelings and know that your voice matters. Be confident! you know your baby better than anyone. Ask for help when you need it and lean into laughter when the chaos feels overwhelming.

Most importantly, remember !“You’ve got this, and I’ve got you!”

  • Adaptability! Every family is different and I believe the freedom to be themselves without judgment, just genuine support is pure gold. I love adjusting my approach to meet each family’s unique needs, whether that means changing routines, trying new comfort techniques, or simply tuning in to what feels right in the moment.

Clients appreciate my calm, flexible energy and how I offer encouragement, a listening ear, or quiet support as needed. I always honor each family’s choices, celebrating their individuality and supporting them in the way that feels best for them. My goal is to help parents feel empowered, respected and truly cared for, no matter how their postpartum journey unfolds.
